Our Story

It is incredible how one small idea can grow into something truly special. Transforming Family San Diego is rooted in the belief that we all have an inherent responsibility to make a meaningful difference in our community.  

Transforming Family was the first Peer to Peer Support Group for families with gender diverse children in San Diego. The group was started in 2009 in the living room of our Founder Monica Cham, a mother of a Transgender son.  It soon grew too large and we moved to a bigger space in 2011.  We meet once a month on the first Sunday of the month from 1pm to 2:30 pm for support and engaging community.  

While our parents meet, the children and teens have a separate supervised groups to enable interaction with other kids who share their experience.
